Brenda B. Asare Honored with the Benjamin Franklin Award by AFP Chicago

Chicago, IL – October 30, 2025 – Alford Group proudly announces that Brenda B. Asare, President and CEO, has been named the recipient of this year’s Benjamin Franklin Award by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Chicago Chapter. The award will be presented at AFP Chicago’s 49th Annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on November 5th  where colleagues, clients and community leaders will gather to celebrate Brenda’s extraordinary leadership and impact on the philanthropic sector.

The Benjamin Franklin Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates lifelong leadership in philanthropy through long-term, significant contributions that set a standard for excellence and positively impacts the nonprofit and fundraising community. Brenda’s career embodies the spirit of this honor — defined by her commitment to advancing equity, expanding generosity and fostering transformative partnerships between donors and the missions they support.

Since joining Alford Group in 2004 and ascending to the role of President and CEO in 2014, Brenda has leveraged nearly three decades of nonprofit management experience across various sectors, focusing on campaign execution, strategic planning, corporate partnerships, board leadership development and organizational design. Under Brenda’s direction, Alford Group has continued its 46-year legacy of helping nonprofits navigate change, strengthen strategy and guide organizations nationwide in building inclusive cultures of philanthropy.

“Philanthropy is about the collective power of people coming together to create change,” said Asare. “This recognition is not just about one person — it’s about all of us who believe in a more just and generous world. I’m deeply honored to receive this award from AFP Chicago, an organization that continues to elevate our profession and strengthen our community.”

Brenda’s influence extends far beyond Alford Group. She currently serves as Immediate Past Chair of The Giving Institute, which houses the Giving USA Foundation, and recently contributed to the establishment and work of the Generosity Commission, an initiative expanding the definition of generosity in America today. In recognition of her remarkable contributions, Brenda was named by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of its Notable Minorities in Consulting in 2019 and one of its Notable Black Leaders and Executives in 2021.

Beyond her professional accomplishments and service on many boards, Brenda is deeply committed to mentoring. She has guided numerous development professionals, fostering growth and excellence within the sector. Her leadership reflects a vision of philanthropy that values not only financial giving, but also the sharing of time, talent, testimony and ties.
